Benefits of Drinking Water

Benefit 1: Brain.
Adequate hydration is important for proper functioning of the brain. When we are well hydrated, brain cells are better supplied with fresh, oxygen-laden blood, and the brain remains alert. Mild dehydration, a 1% to 2% loss in body weight, can impair the ability to concentrate. Loss of more than 2% body weight due to dehydration can affect the brain's processing abilities and impair short-term memory.

Benefit 2: Maintain the Balance of Body Fluids.
Human body is composed of about 60% water. The functions of these bodily fluids include digestion, absorption, circulation, creation of saliva, transportation of nutrients, and maintenance of body temperature. When you're low on fluids, the brain triggers the body's thirst mechanism. And unless you are taking medications that make you thirsty, Guest says, you should listen to those cues and get yourself a drink of water, juice, milk, coffee -- anything but alcohol.

Benefit 3: Improved Weight Maintenance.
Drinking water or water-rich fluids on a regular basis can help you maintain a healthier weight or even lose weight. Drinking water instead of soda can quench your thirst without adding calories to your diet and may suppress or distract your appetite if you drink it when you experience a food craving. Water is also essential for weight loss because your body needs to flush out the byproducts of the fat it's breaking down.

Benefit 4: Relieves Fatigue.
Water is used by the body to help flush out toxins and waste products from the body. If your body lacks water, your heart, for instance, needs to work harder to pump out the oxygenated blood to all cells, so are the rest of the vital organs, your organs will be exhausted and so will you. Your body feels very good and that’s why you feel happy.

Benefit 5: Water Helps Your Kidneys.
Body fluids transport waste products in and out of cells. The main toxin in the body is blood urea nitrogen, a water-soluble waste that is able to pass through the kidneys to be excreted in the urine.
When you're getting enough fluids, urine flows freely, is light in color and free of odor. When your body is not getting enough fluids, urine concentration, color, and odor increases because the kidneys trap extra fluid for bodily functions.
The kidneys also work to control normal levels of sodium and other electrolytes. A well-hydrated healthy person's kidneys filter approximately 180 liters of water each day: clearly most of this has to be reabsorbed to prevent excessive losses from the body.
If you chronically drink too little, you may be at higher risk for kidney stones, especially in warm climates, Guest warns.

Benefit 6: Digestive Tract.
Drinking sufficient water along with eating fiber keeps your digestive tract running smoothly and prevents unpleasant medical complications. Hydration plays an important role in the digestion of food and the absorption of nutrients from the digestive tract. Water is required to dissolve nutrients so that they may be absorbed into the bloodstream and delivered to the cells. Insufficient hydration will slow the digestive process and chronic poor hydration can lead to constipation.

Benefit 7: Reduce the Risk of Cancer.
Related to the digestive system, some studies show that drinking a healthy amount of water may reduce the risks of bladder cancer and colon cancer. Water dilutes the concentration of cancer-causing agents in the urine and shortens the time in which they are in contact with bladder lining.

Benefit 8: Muscles and joints work better.
When you’re well hydrated, the water inside and outside the cells of contracting muscles provides adequate nutrients and removes waste efficiently so you perform better. Water is also important for lubricating joints. Contrary to popular belief, muscle cramps do not appear to be related to dehydration, but, instead, to muscle fatigue.

Benefit 9: Water Can Help Control Calories.

For years, dieters have been drinking lots of water as a weight loss strategy. While water doesn't have any magical effect on weight loss, substituting it for higher calorie beverages can certainly help. Having extra lubrication in your body also improves your ability to eat and digest food because water is in your saliva and the mucous that helps move food through your digestive tract.

Benefit 10: Less Likely to Get Sick and Feel Healthy:
Drinking plenty of water helps fight against flu and other ailments like kidney stones and heart attack. Water adds with lemon is used for ailments like respiratory disease, intestinal problems, rheumatism and arthritis etc. In another words one of the benefits of drinking water is that it can improve your immune system.
